A player who chooses to fold can no longer compete in the main pot. If a player chooses to fold, he or she forfeits the right to the pot, and the remaining players may decide to bet.
Players who choose to raise are a player who wishes to place an increased amount of money into the pot. The amount of the bet may be small, or it can be large. Generally, the bet is made after the dealer has dealt the first two cards. However, there are also some positions where forced bets are required. These include the ante and the blind.
To start, each player is given a card face up. The ante is a “buy in” to the round of play, usually $1 or $5. In the final betting interval, the player with the highest hand takes the pot.
After the first two rounds of dealing, the cards are divided into a central pot. This pot contains winnings from all rounds of the game. Cards are then shuffled and distributed to the remaining players.
